CONTAINERIZED SOLAR ABATTOIRS

Afghanistan communities do not have a consistent power supply to provide facilities for food and produce storage and processing. If communities are provided these facilities, they will be more self-reliant and their economies have a chance to grow and be more competitive.

With its vision of providing holistic energy and development services in Afghanistan, SESA developed community-scale abattoirs* for the safe slaughter of animals and processing and storage of their meat. These abattoirs are housed in standard 20-foot insulated shipping containers and sanitized to allow the safe storage of meat.

SESA recently completed a pilot unit in New Zealand, which will be modified to suit the unique situations in Afghanistan.

The abattoir is fitted with a solar water heater for cleaning and sterilizing the unit and equipment, a water pump to carry well water onto the roof tank, and efficient interior lighting. The abattoir will be connected to existing solar or wind power systems, upgraded to meet the additional load requirements.
